Food Tip Keep calm and carry on: Eating more fruits and vegetables will make you happier and calmer. Boost your mood with a big daily salad.

You probably already know that eating too much sugar can make you cranky and tired, but did you also know that feasting on fruits and vegetables can make you feel just the opposite? Research published in the British Journal of Health Psychology found that eating more fruits and vegetables was associated with people feeling calmer, happier and more energetic in their daily lives. Researchers found that people felt more upbeat and positive when their diet was rich in produce. In determining which came first — the good mood or the green food — the researchers found that eating fruits and vegetables predicted higher spirits the next day. This suggests that healthy foods may in fact be a bona fide mood-booster.
