If you take coffee or tea breaks throughout the day, you may be helping reduce your risk for stroke, according to a Japanese report.
The study of about 83,000 people, led by Yoshihiro Kokubo, MD, chief of preventive cardiology at the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center, in Osaka, suggests that drinking green tea or coffee daily may lower stroke risk by 20 percent or more, depending on the type of stroke. Dr. Kokubo and his colleagues are not yet sure about the underlying properties that cause coffee and tea to have this effect, but one possibility they are considering is that coffee and tea may have blood-thinning properties.
